Exercise shouldn't only be about the physical benefits it brings; it's also an incredibly effective (and proven) way of improving our mental health. The link between exercise and mental health is a complex but positive one, with a host of suggested reasons as to why we see an improvement in our mood post exercise. Exercise has been shown to increase production of serotonin and endorphins, which contribute to feelings of well-being and happiness.

I don't know about you, but for me personally, exercise is my release. If I'm feeling a bit low, I exercise...if I'm stressed...I exercise...actually, if I'm feeling really great it's more than likely I'll head to the gym or out for a walk. It's important to remember that exercise doesn't have to be strenuous or structured, and it definitely doesn't have to mean a hardcore gym sesh! Pop out for a brisk walk, consider skipping the bus and travelling on foot, ask a friend to join you for a swim...anything you enjoy! A 30 minute walk in the fresh air can make the world of difference.
