WHY WE SLEEP

I recently read a book that was so good I have to share, if you haven't read it already, honestly you should. The book I'm talking about is Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker, which at the risk of sounding a little dramatic, kinda blew my mind!

I guess I've always known that sleep is pretty important...you just need to think of how good you feel after a solid night of unbroken sleep, or on the flip side how crappy you feel if you've not had much shut eye. I didn't however realise just how detrimental sleep is to our short and long term, physical and mental health. Walker argues that sleep is more important for our health than both diet and exercise, and I have to admit, after only a few chapters it's hard to disagree.
My personal sleep habits have improved a lot in the last couple of years, (I used to rarely get to bed before midnight and my alarm would go off at 5.40, then I'd wonder why by 8pm on a Friday I was like a zombie), but reading this has made me think about prioritising sleep even more. Have a read, it's SO interesting. In the meantime, I"m off for a nap :)
